God vs. Darwin

When I was a kid, I didn't really know there was such a thing as evolution. And when I first heard about it, I was completely shocked that anyone actually believed that God didn't create the Heaven's, Earth, and everything in it. Other beliefs were just absurd to me, and although I don't remember talking with my parents about evolution, I'm sure if we had a discussion on it, it would have went something like the cartoon.

As I've gotten older and talked with people from all over the world about it, I've realized that more and more people actually believe in evolution. Truthfully, I haven't spent a whole lot of time on the subject, although I've read a few books on it, but it hasn't been something that I'm too interested in studying. Especially since I believe that God created...period.

Well, this afternoon, Alyson and I watched the movie, Expelled. Below is the trailer for the movie - so interesting. If you have never watched it, I would totally recommend watching it. If nothing else, to begin dialogue.

What was interesting to me, is that Ben Stein's movie seemed to be a fair discussion between the two debates, and either shocking or not, Mr. Stein concludes that he believes in Intelligent Design. Actually what I got out of the movie is that he believes that God created, and that things have had minor changes over time. The coolest part is that Mr. Stein interviewed tons of scientist, and not just Christian ones for this documentary to come up with his conclusion.

Anyway, what do you believe? I know I'm biased, but I find it easier to believe that something way BIGGER than me (God) created everything than believe in a once in a never chance of something being created out of nothing.

personally, i believe God created everything, but because of our choices different things have evolved over time... which is what i understand to be intelligent design. adam and eve made choices that changed the way life was lived and progressed on earth. we make choices that create disease or pollution, and that in turns changes things in our environment... causing things to evolve. God creates... we choose... life happens.

i don't know if that's right or wrong, but it's what makes sense to me.

I believe that God created, and don't feel the need to say anything beyond that. Reviewing the documentary on my blog, I ended with this:
"At the end of the day, though, I fall in line behind author Madeleine L’Engle (A Wrinkle in Time, Walking on Water), who said in an interview, “Somebody once asked me in a college setting what I thought about creationism versus evolution. I said, “I can’t get very excited about it. There’s only one question that’s worth asking, and that is, did God make it? If the answer is yes, then why get so excited about how?”'

As to the film itself, it is a horrible piece of propaganda, not at all fair in its treatment of the subject and dishonestly selective what it shows. I said more about that in my review, and you can find the same take many other places. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I've gone from deep unbelief to deep faith in God, and one of the things that convinced me that God must be real is the realization that a great and intelligent designer had to be behind all of this. ... There's no other feasible explanation.

I believe that it is God and God alone who created us just as we are. I wrote a blog in response to your. http://patsycostner.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-great-is-our-god.html If only we look beyond our own thinking, God will reveal who he is and that he is great enough to do anything.
